Just tried to pay my bills in Lloyds and it is closed. Police car and Group 4 van. Finger print team are in there and the door is locked. Just thought you might want to know that exciting things do happen in Worcester Park!!

Just had a plastic bag for clothing collection A and P company reg'n 5769478, on the bag is printed "Help for the blind and weak-eyed children", the bags to be collected Friday between 8am and 7pm.
I tackled the very nice and polite young lady deliverer (Polish) she said she didn't know the purpose of the collection and her only interest was the payment she received.
Is there any point contacting Trading Standards, can they do anything about it, I wonder?

Been dipping in to your musings for a while. very informative. i live in moreton road . not seen a snake man yet though. keep up the good work. i am also wondering about the hamptons growth and enlargement and the greater amount of cars it throws onto an already stationary high street. i will let you know how the delving goes.

Hi I have just had a leaflet through my door from Polotex Ltd and thought to google them and came across this site. I live in Kent so it seems they are covering a large area now. It also seems we can do nothing to stop people giving them clothes thinking they are doing their bit for charity. I saw lots of black bags in my street for collection today, but I didn't think I should start knocking on doors at 8am before work to tell people they are not a charity! I have also had leaflets for a few other companies doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop them ?

Does anyone have any idea what is happening with the old M&S at the bottom of the high street, and also what is happening with the hideous block of offices/ shops in NOrth Cheam intersection.
Also keen to know what peoples thoughts are on the increase in housing in Hamptons/ Langley Ave/ Clarks Ave etc and the resulting traffic around Green Lane in the morning and no increase in ammenties despite the increase in people in the area.
Loving this blog, which I just found !!!
Keep it going

Hi,
Found your website by chance as I have just had a Polotex leaflet pushed through the door and decided to look them up! Although at the bottom it does state they are a commercial organisation - this could easily be missed. I agree fully with your comments about them and other like companies. They have obviously extended their field of operations - I live in Wolverhampton!

Walked past the Huntsman last night and there were only 2 people at the bar! (Ok, it was a Monday night I suppose). Also heard that there has been trouble there at the weekend end already! Lol

have just been scammed by Polotex so am reporting it to the police as theft. I gave a set of keys to the driver and all bags were clearly marked for a local charity the Osborne Partnership. I asked the driver to hand the keys in an envelope also clearly marked and he made no comment. I've driven around the streets looking for the plain white van but no luck otherwise the boot of my car would have been filled with my donations!!!!

Brinkster,
As promised, the details of my Worcester Park snake encounter:
As I crossed central road outside the train station some weeks ago, I was shocked to see a SNAKE crossing the road in the opposite direction! When I relayed the incredible details of the snake-using-a-pedestrian-crossing incident to a friend he remarked "what kind of snake was it?Was it a cobra? Did it rear up and press the button"? Unfortunately I don't think anyone I have told has taken me seriously...

I've only just discovered your blog but I have immediately added it to my favourites! Being the mere age of 19 I have lived in Langley Avenue all my life (apart from the last year when I was in Barking/Becton). You may have seen me during the three years I worked in Superdrug - I was the clumsy one that always had a hangover. This job allowed me to build a mental database of the varied characters of WP and i feel they are all due fair mention as they make WP what it is. I'm moving to East Ham in a few weeks so I'm counting on you to keep my informed of the ever changing world of WP. for this I thank you.

Hi Brinkster,
thought I'd drop you a line rather than post a comment as this is a news item rather than a response to a news item so its for you to post and expand or not as you think fit.
On the front window of the old M & S store next door to the Huntsman's has been posted an advert for staff vacancies for a new shop called Bikehut. I cant be certain but I presume from that that the M&S is going to be a bike shop called that.
I looked on the internet and Bikehut is a name for stores owned by Halfords but for bikes and bike stuff only and there are only a few select branches in very "smart" trendy places like Brighton and Putney. In fact from memory I think Brighton and Putney are the only ones.
Assuming the evidence leads to the above conclusion and I'm 99 % sure it does the questions are-
Almost directly opposite at what I think must be Ryan Gate now about 3 or 4 years ago a bike shop opened which was crammed with bikes and I went in there to have a browse as I was thinking of getting a one and the staff were incredibly friendly and highly professional/enthusiastic and really trying to make a go of the place. About a year to 18 months from opening the bikes were gone and a court order for reoccupation for non payment of rent was nailed to the front door, or in these days of glass frontages sellotaped to the glass.
So how will Bikehut do better, bearing in mind they have the added rental costs of an upper floor which will about double the rent compared with the old bike shop across the road plus the rent on the parking area to the front which will presumably be used by hard-core biking enthusiasts who have come to buy their supplies by ....er ....car!
If Halfords are planning to get the customers in by a marketing campaign which brings in people from all over London and the South East, why not attract them to the existing Putney outlet?
We wait and see.
cheers
