Assault

Apparently there was an assault in "A Worcester Park tailor's" at 6.45am last Thursday. I didn't see anything, though it was around the time that I was going to the station for the 6.56. Judging by the age of the victim (65) and the description of it being a tailor's I'm guessing it's the shop on the right of this photo, as they're closing down due to retirement, but I'd be interested to find out for sure. If anyone has an info the original link has the contact details for the police.

Worcester Park is generally a quiet place, which is why this counts as big news, but it'd be nice not to have this kind of stuff happen at all. That probably qualifies me to be Squadron Leader of the 1st Worcester Park Flying Pigs but hey.

I dont know anything about the story but I suspect its not the tailor's you've pointed out. The only real tailor's in WP I can think of is the one, as you walk up the hill, its just past the launderette on the same side of the road, about opposite Broadway Bargains. Its a cubby hole sort of place and walk in and its like stepping into a WP shop as it was in the 1920's. Its owned by a guy aged about 65 who looks like a Greek Cyp and permanently wears a greek style flat cap and an old blue, pin-striped suit jacket, tailor style. If its him I'm sorry about it, he's one of those independent traders who work all the hours sent day in and day out to make a living.

By the way, as a first-time poster and WP resident can I say how much I enjoy your blog, as someone said in an earlier comment its like listening to chit chat from your neighbour about the goings on in our neck of the woods. As not a great deal happens in WP I think its up to regular readers to take the time to post comments to keep the discussion going and provide information/ideas/comment to stimulate further blog topics.

cheers

Ah, you're right!! I was thinking of tailors as being men's clothes shops but not in the sense you've picked up on. I think you mean Stitch Express here:

I'm not 100% sure but I think the shop with the blue frontage between Le Kitchen and Impulse has also turned into a tailors:

That would make more sense as I was on Central Road at that time and didn't see anything downhill of Brinkley Road, and these are both uphill. Either way I don't understand how someone can justify to themselves doing that to someone.

Thanks for the kind words!! My ramblings do seem to be a combination of my personal views and snapshots of conversations that I have with Mrs Brinkster over a glass of wine (or three) on the sofa. In the back of my mind I harbour the suspicion that Worcester Park could be Surrey's equivalent of Lake Wobegon, and have even toyed with the idea of audio-blogging to that effect:

It may be a small and quirky place on the map, but the characters are often rich and surprising, if you take the time.

Thanks again for you comments. They're much appreciated.
