Making the most of the fact I've got the day off I strolled down Central Road this morning on the way to the sorting office to see what's what. Nearly a month ago I posted that the Bakers Oven was being refurbished so I thought I'd show you the before and after Liking the new sign. Very smart!
With an eye to wider events Alfie the cat's gone missing on the Worcester Park/Stoneleigh border so take a look if you live near there in case you can help (or just like cute cat pictures).
Lastly the prize for the most bizarre Worcester Park reference goes to.......[drum roll please]........ The Doll Palace, which is about "The art of making cartoon dolls (dollz) and Doll Makers" and invites visitors to "Use our huge dollmaker dress up games to create personalized dolls and send them by email". I'm trying not to get too creeped out here but I know you're wanting the Worcester Park reference: "I knew I wanted Toby and nobody else. So I ran. Went to the station and got off at Worcester Park." "Worcester Park?" "Thats where Toby lives."
If you want to find the rest (including the unsubtle innuendo) you'll have to use Google.
If anyone's interested in the possibility of a pub crawl from the bottom from the Worcester Park to the North End tavern do let me know.........

That means you're actually willing to go in The Huntsman?

Not only am I willing to go to the Huntsman I'm also going to challenge myself to find the best glass of house wine on Central Road..... which knowing the establishments concerned is asking for trouble.
In my defence if we do the Huntsmans second it'll be pretty early and we might get out of there before any trouble starts.

Hmm, best glass of house wine. I'd try The Worcesters, The Huntsman used to, until quite recently, do a nice Ernest and Julio Gallo blush although I'm not sure it was a house wine or even if they'd get the concept of one! Kazbar - good luck with that. In the Legion it's more likely to be a house sherry. Which leaves that place that used to be Smittys and the North End itself. I reckon the NET will be the winner.....

You may well be right, though by the amount I could have drunk by the time I get to the NET I might be past noticing. I know someone from the Kazbar reads this so perhaps they can enlighten me on their wine selection?
Nice to see someone else remembers Smittys...... we even used to travel from New Malden just to go there before we moved here.

I used to love Smittys happy hour on Saturday evenings. On good days I could manage a couple of TMFs made with sparkling wine instead of lemonade. The owners used to leave us the keys so we could have lock ins when they were too tired to stay up!

The Caz Bar house wine is all I drink I'm not a wine expert but its fairly good.
Are you seriously going to do the pub crawl? Sounds good.
Andy
(19.12.07 09:15)
I had the house wine in the Kazbar on Saturday, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd expected it to be. Looks like the pub crawl just didn't materialise eh? Still, it would be a pretty short one anyway, come down to Dorking where we can have a serious one!

I'm not sure, I had the feeling it might be organised over the next few weeks rather than straight away what with it being xmas and all that...? Is there anyone else interested besides me and you Andy? lol

I'm going to be swinging by WP tomorrow to catch the Chelsea game, I may even have another go on the Kazbar house vino.
Jenny
(23.12.07 10:10)
Andy, did you go in the Cazbar yesterday?
Andy
(23.12.07 19:33)
No, I was planning to go today but got stuck at home. Why?
Jenny
(24.12.07 16:39)
No reason at all Its my local and I was in there Sat.
Andy
(24.12.07 18:29)
Ah, I see. I usually go in there to watch the football, no other reason normally. Although some of my friends seem to think there are checkpoints at all exits from Worcester Park so never bother leaving and I end up in there to meet them.
Jenny

Lol, everyone goes in there to watch the footie. It gets packed! I know people like that that never leave WP. Very boring.

Honestly, since I moved from WP I've lived in Wandsworth, Raynes Park and Dorking. I can count the number of times my closest mate from WP visited me in these houses on the fingers of two hands - just!
Anyway, I went into the Huntsman on NYE, I think those blokes might be trying to make it a decent pub again. Actually, again is the wrong word, it's always been dire. Reckon they'll succeed?

Huntsman on NYE? Brave man. I kind of know the 2 guys in there who are trying to make a go of it and they seem cool. Whatever they are doing, its working coz its seems really packed in there on certain nights! I'll even admit I was in there on a Friday night before xmas and I had a great night! Its good hey are open until 2 or whatever it is. A mini nightclub for WP lol!!!
Bob, this i a great site, why post a comment if you think its sad? You are clearly too young to appreciate it.

Which, it could be argued, is an apt description of Worcester Park itself, in which case mission accomplished!!

I'm always up for a pub crawl. Let me know when you're having one next.

I went in The Huntsman pretty early on NYE for a couple of drinks, I had to make sure I could get the train back to Dorking. I shall probably be partaking this weekend actually, I believe that there may be something of interest in The Kazbar for Chelsea fans on Saturday.

Oh, and I think the blog is great Brinkster, both you and Worcester Park paint an interesting picture of, er, Worcester Park. Keep up the good work I say.
