Photos

A couple of photos for you today from dear old Worcester Park which I stumbled across whilst searching Flickr.com.
The first is of the old WP cinema, once it had been converted into a Gateway and before it became Pizza Express:

Here's the 'after' shot from my own gallery:

Here's an arty one which makes WP station look quite trendy, in a suburban sort of way:

On the subject of WP station here's a couple from a while ago showing sunrise of WP station (now doesn't that conjure up romantic images......)

Not to be outdone someone else has come up with "Sunset over the Hamptons" just this week:

Back later with some actual news!!

Oh dear. Poor New Malden

Only a year after having the High Street dug up in New Malden to make it all smart and lovely they're having to dig it up again. Apparently the new stones are harmful to cyclists, and the like, and the Local Councillors have agreed to take the action to make it safer........ shame about the harm to local business, who are displeased at having business devastated again while still trying to recover from last time.

By the time they've finished mucking around (next Spring apparently) there won't be much local business left.... if they end up with fewer shops than Worcester Park then it'll be bad news for them. Maybe there's be a home for Tudor Williams in WP.

There's no danger of a fiasco like that in Worcester Park. Sutton Council are never going to spend any money on beautifying Central Road, they only love Sutton High Street.

Worcester Park residents can sleep easily in their beds. The Sutton Council website reports:
"It was noted, for example, that organisation of the Christmas festivities for Central Road was already underway."
If you don't believe me read it here. The timing's appropriate as the Seasonal Shop is now festooned in it's traditional Christmas colours.

The only other thing that struck me as I browsed was this planning permission entry:
Application A2006/56016/FUL
Area/Ward:A02NONSUCH
Location:Land @ r/o 105-107 Central Road (Yoga Way) Worcester ParkKT4 8DY
Proposal:Erection of a four storey building comprising 180 square metres of floorspace at ground floor level for use falling within either Class A1(Shops), A3 (Restaurants and Cafes), A4 (Drinking Establishment), A5 (Hot Food Takeaway), B1 (Business) or D1 (Non Residential Institutions) of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 2005 (as amended) and two 1-bedroomed self contained flats and three 2-bedroomed self contained maisonettes on first, second and third floor levels together with four car parking spaces for residential use

Apart from the obvious point of building stuff behind Central Road my main question is "since when was that called 'Yoga Way'??" Are they making this stuff up?

P.S. Welcome to whoever it was from Dresdner Kleinwort who gave my blog a good looking over this morning! Makes the traffic stats look good!!

Hard Labour

Another 'recycling' leaflet this morning, but they seem to have lost their enthusiasm as they couldn't even be bothered to push it through the door and I found it on the doorstep when I went out. Also they do make a point of saying they aren't a charity, but why they think people might want to help out their business for free rather than help a charity I don't know.

Anyway, for those of you who've Googled your way here (the vast majority of my traffic nowadays) the company in question is "Recycling Port Ltd" and they provide absolutely no contact details about themselves whatsoever. Interestingly (to me at least) the only Google listing at time of writing is to the "Moss Bank Labour Blog" here: http://mossbanklabour.blogspot.com/2006/10/clothing-collection-laffak-beware.html
They've got a scan of the flyer and some info from Companies House, registration number 5733047.
